Grammar School of Jan Adam Rayman

History

Grammar School of Jan Adam Rayman (GJAR) is considered to be one of the best grammar schools not only in our region, but also in whole Slovakia.

The grammar school was established in 1961, first as a secondary school for general education, which was located on Tarasa Ševčenka Street. In 1997, the school moved to new premises on Mudroňová Street, which were fundamentally renovated in 2008-2009.

Jan Adam Rayman

Since September 1, 1994, the school has been called the Ján Adam Rayman Grammar School. Ján Adam Rayman (1690 - 1770) was an important Prešov doctor, pharmacist and, most importantly, a pioneer of vaccination with world importance. Every year, on the anniversary of Rayman´s birth, our school organizes an activity called Rayman´s week. During this special week, graduate students work as teachers in classes and the whole school dresses in the prescribed color of rainbow every day.
