For the past four years, I have been attending the Ján Adam Rayman Gymnasium on Mudroňova Street in Prešov. Our gymnasium offers both four-year and eight-year programs. GJAR is one of the prestigious schools in the Prešov region.

A few years ago, we celebrated the 60th anniversary of the founding of our gymnasium. During that time, our school has relocated and undergone many reconstructions to modernize classrooms.

Ján Adam Rayman

From an early age, Ján Adam Rayman was given the opportunity to work in a pharmacy. This was a pivotal moment, as he dedicated his entire life to medical work.

He studied at the Evangelical College in Prešov. Rayman pursued his medical studies in Jena and Leiden.

After completing his studies, he returned to Prešov, where he married Žofia Wachsmannová, and together they had seven children.

Rayman ran a business selling medicinal products, exotic fruits, spices, and wine. As a popular figure among the citizens of Prešov and due to his noble status, the town exempted him from paying taxes.

The peak of his career was in vaccination, which he performed on his own daughter. She suffered from smallpox, and Rayman massaged pus from her sick brother's pockmark into a skin incision on her shoulder. He later performed vaccinations on other patients as well.

He was also involved in treating measles, scarlet fever, and rabies. His principles are still applied in immunology today. In addition to medicine and pharmacy, Rayman also delved into chemistry and meteorology.
